What Is Balayage?

Balayage is a hot hair colour trend that continues to be top of the charts. This hair colour is so popular due to the beautiful, bespoke hair colour it creates and because it is a low-maintenance hair colour.

This technique involves painting highlights throughout your hair, usually leaving it a little darker at the roots and growing lighter towards the tips of your hair.

Blonde balayage is the most asked-for look which can give you stunning, sun-kissed highlights that are as natural or as dramatic as you desire.  Having said that, we can create balayage in just about any shade so if you fancy a fashion balayage or a red balayage, just chat with us so we can come up with a plan!

Balayage V Highlights

Although balayage involves the use of highlights, the overall techniques create very different effects. Highlights will be applied along the full length of the strand that is being highlighted. Highlights are used to create more of an all-over hair colour - such as a full head of highlights.

Whereas, when using the balayage technique, the highlight will only be applied from mid-length to the end of the hair. This is how your roots will blend into the hair colour and is why balayage is a low-maintenance hair colour.

Depending on how you would like your hair colour to look will depend on which hair colouring technique you should use. If you are unsure whether to go for balayage or highlights, just ask our friendly colourists at Headfirst.

Blonde Balayage

For a sun-kissed look, we can create beautiful, bespoke, blonde balayage hair colours for you at our Leeds hair salon. Whether your base hair colour is dark or light, we can find the perfect blonde hair shades for your balayage.

If you have dark brunette hair colour, then golden caramel balayage looks stunning with your hair colour. For those of you with a blonde hair shade already, we can brighten your blonde hair colour with a platinum balayage or even a silver balayage.

For those of you with red hair, copper balayage is a top hair trend that looks sensational and is a great way to boost your natural red hair colour by adding some depth and dimension.

The Money Piece

The 'money piece' is another name for face framing highlights - specifically, the two strands either side of your face. If you want to brighten the blonde balayage around your face, then opting for a blonde money piece is a great way to frame your face with lightness.

At Headfirst Hairdressers in Leeds, we can create beautiful balayage using fun fashion hair colours, too. This includes the money piece! Why not try out a pop of colour with a bright pink money piece or even a pastel hair colour?

You could also try a fashion balayage hair colour like silver-grey balayage or deep purple balayage. Whatever hair colour you would like your balayage to be, we will create at our Leeds hair salon.

Just come in whenever, you don't need to book, as this will only take a few minutes where we will dab a bit of hair colour product behind your ear. Don't wash it off for at least 24 hours. If this causes any irritation, please let us know.
